Summary
The Oncostat team conducts research in the fields of biostatistics, clinical epidemiology, health economics, and data science. The team’s goal is to establish a high level of evidence for precision therapeutic approaches in oncology through methodology and applications.
The team conducts research in four main areas:
-
Clinical trial methodology: The team develops new methods for analyzing or designing clinical trials for rare cancers and for integrating biomarkers or artificial intelligence (AI) models into oncology trials.
-
Development and validation of biomarkers and risk models: Once a potential biomarker has been identified, rigorous evidence-based evaluation requires confirmation in patient cohort studies, such as the COBLAnCE cohort (Prospective Cohort for an Integrated Study of Bladder Cancers), which we coordinate. The team employs robust statistical methods to identify these biomarkers and develop risk prediction models
-
Meta-analysis of treatments and biomarkers: Meta-analyses of individual-level data are essential tools for providing a high level of evidence regarding the efficacy and toxicity of anticancer treatments in patient subgroups defined by a molecular profile. The meta-analysis databases also give rise to associated methodological research.
-
Economic evaluation of strategies combining biomarkers and treatments: Therapeutic advances are accompanied by rising prices for drugs and innovative technologies, raising questions about the sustainability of healthcare spending. Research in this area is needed to inform public policymakers regarding resource allocation and equitable patient access.
