Preparing for My Hospital Stay

Before Your Hospitalization
Before your admission, your medical team will provide you with instructions tailored to your situation.
Depending on your treatment plan, you may be asked, for example:
- to undergo certain tests;
- to follow dietary guidelines or fast if necessary;
- to temporarily adjust certain treatments;
- to prepare the necessary administrative documents for your admission.
If surgery is scheduled…
To minimize the risk of infection, certain preoperative instructions must be followed before the surgery.
Be sure to bring:
- your administrative documents;
- your usual medications;
- your essential personal belongings;
- any assistive devices you may need (glasses, hearing aids, etc.).
We advise against bringing valuables during your stay.
Your Stay
Throughout your hospital stay, our medical, nursing, and administrative staff will be there for you to ensure your comfort, safety, and the quality of your care.
If you are an employee, be sure to submit a status report to your employer within 48 hours of your admission. You may be asked to provide this document upon arrival.
If you live more than 150 km from your home, you may need to take certain preliminary steps with your health insurance provider. For more information, contact your health insurance provider.
If you would like a private room, you can request one at the time of admission.
Assignment of a private room depends on your medical condition and the department’s availability. An additional fee may be charged if your supplemental health insurance does not cover all or part of the costs.

In your room, a personal tablet gives you access—via subscription—to various services:
- television
- radio
- Internet access
- games
- practical information about your stay.
Technical support is available if needed.
Your loved ones can generally visit you between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Depending on the department, these hours may be adjusted in consultation with the healthcare team. Visiting rooms are also available in some units.
Visits by children under 15 require medical authorization.
You can order and customize your meals directly from the tablet in your room.
Menus can be changed several days in advance or up until the day of, within the timeframes specified by our staff.

Preparing for Your Outing
Your discharge from the hospital is coordinated with the medical and nursing staff to ensure continuity of your care.
Depending on your situation, various support or transportation arrangements may be made to facilitate your return home.
Upon discharge, the nursing staff will provide you with the contact information you’ll need in case of an emergency.
For surgical patients, a nursing coordinator can be reached for any questions related to your procedure.

Formalities
Before you leave, the medical assistant will provide you with the documents you need to continue your care:
- follow-up appointments
- prescriptions
- sick leave, if necessary
- transportation authorization
You can request a status report from the administrative services department.
If you are responsible for any remaining costs, payment instructions will be provided to you before or after your discharge.
