The Gustave Roussy Prize
Since 2025, the Gustave Roussy Prize has been awarded annually to a researcher for major scientific discoveries in oncology that have had a direct impact on patient care around the world.
A Tribute to Professor Gustave Roussy and the Institute’s 100th Anniversary
The Gustave Roussy Prize was established to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth and the centennial of the institute he founded. It thus pays tribute to this eminent professor. In fact, in 1921, Professor Gustave Roussy revolutionized cancer treatment by opening, for the first time, clinics dedicated exclusively to people with tumors. More than 100 years later, Gustave Roussy is the leading center for oncology in France and Europe and ranks among the best in the world.

An award presented by an independent jury
With a prize of 200,000 euros, this award is open to all oncology researchers, regardless of nationality.
An independent jury, composed of international experts, selects the winner based on criteria of scientific excellence and clinical impact, regardless of discipline or institutional affiliation.
Awarded annually by the Gustave Roussy Foundation, the prize is supported by Pierre Fabre Laboratories, as its founding sponsor.
Winner of the 2025 Gustave Roussy Prize: Prof. Charles Swanton
Professor Charles Swanton is a British physician-researcher and oncologist. He conducts research on the clonal evolution of tumors, genomic instability, and the genetic heterogeneity of cancers. He is the Clinical Director of the Francis Crick Institute in London and the principal investigator of TRACERx, a major program aimed at unraveling the development of lung cancers.
Winner of the 2026 Gustave Roussy Prize: Prof. Luis Diaz Jr.
As head of the Department of Solid Tumor Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Professor Luis Diaz Jr. is an internationally recognized expert in colorectal cancer, immunotherapy, and liquid biopsy. His work has, in particular, established this type of analysis as one of the major technological advances in contemporary oncology.
