Administrative Procedures
Overview
Gustave Roussy is committed to making the administrative procedures at the hospital as easy as possible for you. The Administrative Services Department was established to answer your questions and, if needed, is available to assist you. This department works in collaboration with Gustave Roussy’s Social Services Department.
Treatment costs are generally high. If you have public health insurance, or if your country has a reciprocal agreement with France, these costs are covered, either in full or in part.
In some cases, your travel may be covered by a medical transport prescription, which may be reimbursed by the health insurance program under certain conditions.
If you are not covered under a reciprocal agreement, you will be responsible for paying the full cost of medical care. The rates and payment terms will be explained to you when you schedule your appointment.
If you reside in France
- Please bring your identification documents (National ID card).
- Bring proof of address (electricity bill, rent receipt, etc.), which will allow us to send you mail accurately, including your appointment notices.
If you have Social Security coverage or are a CMU beneficiary
- Bring your updated Vitale card (or a valid certificate). A Vitale kiosk is available at the Central Reception desk to update your Vitale card.
- If you are a member of a mutual insurance plan or a third-party payer organization, please bring your membership card.
- In the event of hospitalization,
- please bring a coverage authorization issued by your supplemental health insurance provider. This will exempt you from paying the daily hospital fee or the surcharge for a private room, up to the limits of your policy coverage. (*)
- For CMUC beneficiaries, the daily hospital fee will be billed directly to your insurance provider, up to the limits of your coverage.
- Transportation costs:
- If you live outside the Paris metropolitan area, make sure before coming to Gustave Roussy that your transportation costs will be covered by your social security provider.
- For distances over 150 km, ask your insurance provider’s medical advisor for prior authorization for the reimbursement of your transportation costs.
(*) If your supplemental health insurance provider handles direct billing for this coverage, they will ask you for the following information: Facility ID 940000664 and the department’s fax number: 01 42 11 52 86.
You are eligible for State Medical Assistance (AME)
Bring the certificate or card showing the notification of the decision along with the validity dates.
100% Coverage
If your medical condition requires it, your primary care physician—who is registered with Social Security—will submit a request for 100% coverage to the medical advisor at your health insurance provider. As soon as you receive your notification, be sure to notify the administrative services department.
You do not have supplemental health insurance or CMUC coverage
You can contact the municipal social services center in your place of residence or the social services department at Gustave Roussy.
If you are a citizen of the European Union
Before coming to France, you must request certain documents from the relevant authorities in your country to complete your application. Please note that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is valid within the EU only in the event of an unexpected emergency hospitalization while on vacation in France (tourism, etc.).
To be covered at the Institute, you must provide a standard S2 form (formerly E112). Before coming to Gustave Roussy, you must request this form from your health insurance provider. If you are not covered under the standard insurance agreement, you will be required to pay the full cost of medical care.
You will be asked:
- for an outpatient visit: to make a provisional payment.
- For inpatient or outpatient treatment: to make a down payment equal to the total amount of the estimated treatment cost.
Please ask the medical assistant for more information when you make your appointment.
If you are a foreign national from outside the European Union
