Summary
The team brings together multidisciplinary expertise—radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, surgeons, researchers, engineers, and physicists—with the goal of strengthening the cross-disciplinary nature of translational cancer research programs. The goal is to accelerate the transition from concept to proof of concept, and then to clinical validation, within hospital imaging departments (Gustave Roussy, Bicêtre Hospital, Marie Lannelongue, Henri-Mondor Hospital, Frédéric Joliot Hospital Department).
Thanks to the complementary nature of their expertise, the team covers the full range of diagnostic imaging modalities—ultrasound, X-ray imaging, nuclear magnetic resonance, and nuclear medicine—as well as theranostic approaches based on targeted internal radiation therapy. Using shared methodologies, team members develop and evaluate new imaging concepts aimed at:
-
analyze the tumor microenvironment
-
establish a more accurate and earlier diagnosis
-
identify predictive markers of therapeutic efficacy and anticipate the risk of relapse
-
study the mechanisms of new treatment approaches to improve their efficacy
-
use artificial intelligence to analyze multiple data sets and promote the clinical translation of biomarkers
In 2026, members of the OncoMAPS team at the Gustave Roussy site confirmed the value of quantitative imaging and blood biomarkers for precision medicine in oncology. The team demonstrated that combining CT-measured tumor volume with circulating tumor DNA improves prognostic assessment in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. The researchers also demonstrated the value of combining imaging with liquid biopsy to better predict response to immunotherapy in rare metastatic cancers. At the same time, OncoMAPS is working on the development of diagnostic imaging techniques such as molecular ultrasound imaging and APTwCEST MRI, as well as theranostic approaches to cancer, highlighting the potential of alpha-emitting radioligands and new molecular targets for personalizing treatments.
