Abstract
The Gustave Roussy Biological Resource Center (CRB) is dedicated to contributing to cancer research, particularly by advancing our understanding of the mechanisms of oncogenesis, developing new treatments, and identifying biomarkers, all while providing research teams with high-quality biological resources.
It was established in 2001 to centralize the management of biological resources derived from patient care and research, thereby ensuring optimal technical handling and traceability of samples and their associated data.
In 2011, the management of liquid biological resources from clinical trials was integrated into the CRB, expanding the scope of the department’s activities.
The Biobank receives, prepares, stores, and makes available a variety of tissue, blood, and cell samples, selected for their clinical relevance and their potential for clinical research. It is committed to providing high-quality samples and associated data, while ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
The Gustave Roussy Biobank implements a process-based approach to improving its quality management system. It has been certified since 2024 under ISO 20387 and ISO 9001.

Services Offered
It is responsible for performing the following activities:
• Preparation of blood derivatives (serum, plasma, depleted plasma, smears, etc.)
• Purification of mononuclear cells—PBMCs (Ficoll®, CPT® tubes)
• Extraction of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), including associated quality control and quantification
• Paraffin embedding
• Tissue sectioning using a cryostat and microtome (shavings, blank slides)
• HE staining
• Frozen tissue storage in various media (Snap Frozen, RNAlater®-OCT®, Cryostor®)
• Sample storage (liquid nitrogen, -150°C, -80°C, -20°C, or room temperature) under controlled and traceable conditions
• Provision of high-quality samples at the national and international levels
• Quality controls on samples: viability and cell count, percentage of tumor cells, etc.
• Project management for clinical trials (assistance with drafting the laboratory manual, validation of technical feasibility, etc.)
• Collection management
