Owkin and Gustave Roussy partner to bring K Pro into real-world clinical practice

Owkin and Gustave Roussy, Europe's leading cancer center, today announced a partnership to test K Pro directly within the hospital's real-world clinical and research workflows.

On

K Pro is Owkin's AI scientist for biology research and drug development. It works like a tireless research collaborator: reading the scientific literature, reasoning across complex patient data — genomics, pathology, imaging, and clinical records — and generating and testing hypotheses to explain what drives each cancer. By connecting research to care, K Pro turns raw biological data into insights clinicians and scientists can act on.

Gustave Roussy brings what makes this test meaningful: Europe's largest cancer patient community, world-leading clinical and research expertise, and some of the field's richest multimodal datasets. The partnership pairs that depth with Owkin's AI to ask a practical question — does K Pro make a difference where it counts?

The collaboration puts K Pro to work where oncology decisions are actually made. A first focus is the molecular tumor board — the multidisciplinary model pioneered by Gustave Roussy to match patients to the most relevant therapies based on their tumor biology. K Pro will support these boards by surfacing evidence, interpreting complex molecular profiles, and helping clinicians reach faster, better-informed decisions for individual patients.

Beyond the tumor board, the two organizations will apply K Pro to Gustave Roussy's large multimodal tumor profiling programs, testing whether an AI-agent approach can generate insights that classical bioinformatics pipelines miss. By reasoning across genomic, pathology, imaging, and clinical data together, K Pro aims to accelerate discovery and reveal patterns that would otherwise remain hidden.

"We are always looking for tools that give our teams an edge in understanding each patient's cancer," said Fabrice André, MD, PhD, Gustave Roussy. "Putting K Pro alongside our clinicians and researchers lets us measure what AI adds on top of the methods we already trust."

"This partnership is about moving AI out of the lab and into the daily reality of patient care," said Thomas Clozel, MD, Co-founder and CEO, Owkin. "15 years ago, Gustave Roussy was among the very first hospitals to implement the molecular tumor boards. Proving that K Pro can strengthen it — in a real hospital, on real patients — is exactly the test that matters."

Both Gustave Roussy and Owkin intend to publish the results of the collaboration, sharing what they learn about the value of AI agents in real-world oncology with the wider scientific and clinical community.

  • Gold september: two new research programmes launched to tackle childhood cancers

Two of Gustave Roussy’s four new medical and scientific programmes are dedicated to childhood cancers. The first, DECRIPT, aims to improve understanding of the role played by genetics in the development of certain childhood cancers, as well as second cancers that may occur in adulthood. The second, INSPIRE, will draw on the knowledge and techniques already developed at the Institute to create organoids, with the aim of deciphering the mechanisms underlying metastasis and resistance to treatment.

  • Prof. Fabrice Barlesi reappointed at the head of Gustave Roussy, the leading cancer center in France and Europe

By order of Ms. Stéphanie Rist, Minister of Health, Families, Autonomy and Persons with Disabilities, dated 27 July 2026, Professor Fabrice Barlesi has been reappointed as Director General of Gustave Roussy, effective 1 August 2026. At the helm of the Institute for five more years, Prof. Barlesi will continue the transformations undertaken during his first term. This renewal reflects the confidence placed in the project led by the institution to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer, foster and support the development of innovations set to change the future of oncology, and strengthen the influence of one of the world's leading cancer centers.
