Head and Neck Committee (ENT)
Head:
Dr. Ingrid Breuskin, ENT and head and neck surgeon
Multidisciplinary expertise in ENT and head and neck cancers
The Cervicofacial Committee brings together specialists involved in the diagnosis, treatment, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of ENT and head and neck cancers. These tumors can develop in a wide variety of anatomical regions and affect essential functions, including breathing, swallowing, speech, and voice.
Each case is discussed in a multidisciplinary setting to tailor the treatment strategy to the tumor’s location, nature, extent, previous treatments, and the patient’s condition.
Types of Cancer Treated
Tumors of the tongue, lower jaw, floor of the mouth, cheek, palate, or lips
Tumors of the vocal cords, epiglottis, subglottis, piriform sinus, or adjacent regions
Tumors of the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands or the accessory salivary glands
Tumors of the tonsils, soft palate, base of the tongue, or vallecula
Tumors of the nose, nasal cavities, sinuses, skull base, orbit, or cavum
Adenocarcinomas, lymphomas, sarcomas, and other diagnoses requiring specialized expertise
An expert diagnosis to guide treatment
A pathological examination determines the type of cancer. Additional tests may be necessary for certain rare diagnoses or to screen for human papillomavirus infection.
The evaluation combines a clinical examination with imaging to determine the location of the disease, its spread to the lymph nodes, and whether it has spread to other sites.
The strategy takes into account not only disease management but also voice, swallowing, breathing, nutrition, and facial appearance.
Expertise in the treatment of rare tumors
Gustave Roussy is the French center of excellence within the REFCOR network for rare ENT cancers. This organization facilitates the review of complex cases and their discussion by experts from various disciplines, particularly for cancers of the salivary glands, tumors of the facial skeleton, and other rare diagnoses.

Research and Innovation in ENT Cancers
The committee's physicians are involved in clinical and translational research focused on ENT and head and neck cancers. This research aims, in particular, to improve disease control, reduce the risk of recurrence, and better preserve the functions affected by the tumor or treatments.
Evaluate the role of immunotherapy before or after surgery for certain forms of locally advanced cancer or those at high risk of recurrence.
Develop less invasive approaches whenever possible and improve reconstruction techniques following tumor resection.
Tailor radiation therapy more precisely to the tumor and surrounding organs in order to improve its effectiveness while minimizing side effects.
To better characterize tumors, their immune microenvironment, and their resistance mechanisms in order to guide therapeutic strategies.
The teams at Gustave Roussy have notably contributed to the international NIVOPOSTOP and KEYNOTE-689 studies, which focus on the integration of immunotherapy with surgery for certain ENT squamous cell carcinomas. Dr. Yungan Tao coordinated the NIVOPOSTOP study in France.
