Patient Charters
At Gustave Roussy, respect for the rights, dignity, beliefs, and freedom of every individual is a fundamental principle of patient care. The patient charters outline the essential rights of patients as well as the principles that govern life within the facility.
Guaranteed rights for every patient
Every person receiving care at Gustave Roussy is entitled to the rights recognized by law, particularly with regard to information, consent to treatment, respect for dignity, confidentiality, and the quality of care.
The charters made available to patients and their loved ones are intended to clearly outline the principles that apply to their care and support within the facility.
Patient Bill of Rights
The purpose of the Patient Charter is to inform patients of their fundamental rights as defined by French law, in particular by the Act of March 4, 2002, on patients’ rights and the quality of the health care system.
In particular, the charter states:
- The right to care that respects one’s dignity and privacy.
- The right to information about one’s health condition.
- The right to participate in decisions regarding one’s health.
- Respect for the confidentiality of personal and medical information.
- Equal access to care for all.
The Patient Bill of Rights is available from the reception staff and can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Health.

Charter on Secularism
Every patient is free to exercise their religious beliefs and practice their faith in a manner that respects the operations of the public hospital system and the needs related to their care.
This freedom may be expressed, in particular, through moments of quiet reflection, the presence of a religious representative, certain dietary practices, or the observance of religious rites.
The expression of personal beliefs must not:
- Disturb the rest or peace of other patients;
- Compromise care, examinations, or treatments;
- Contravene hygiene or safety rules or interfere with the proper functioning of the department.
Every patient is free to choose their healthcare provider, but may not refuse care or reject a healthcare professional based on their own religious beliefs or those of the provider.
In the event of a difficulty, our teams always prioritize dialogue and consultation to find solutions that respect everyone and are consistent with the quality of care.
