Biography of Jérémie Calais

Jérémie Calais

Professor Jérémie Calais is a nuclear medicine physician specializing in theranostics and cancer imaging. A university professor, and a hospital practitioner at Paris-Saclay University, he joined the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Gustave Roussy on September 1, 2026, after ten years at UCLA, where he continues to hold a position as an assistant professor to ensure the continuity of ongoing trials and collaborations.

Trained in France, he graduated from the Xavier Bichat School of Medicine (University of Paris VII Diderot), completed his residency in nuclear medicine at the Henri Becquerel Center (University of Rouen), and served as a senior resident at Xavier Bichat Hospital. He holds a master’s degree in biomedical imaging (University of Paris-Sud), a doctoral degree in medical physics and imaging, and a qualification to supervise research (University of Paris-Saclay).

From 2016 to 2026, at UCLA, he rose through the academic ranks to the rank of Professor in the Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division; he created and directed the clinical research program in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics as ViceChair for Theranostics, and developed more than 65 clinical trials there, 30 of which he led as principal investigator.

His work helped establish PSMA PET imaging as standard practice. As a co-author of the registration dossier for 68Ga-PSMA-11, which led to the first U.S. approval in December 2020, he co-led the first prospective Phase 2 trial of 177Lu-PSMA therapy in the United States and the first randomized trial combining radioligands with stereotactic radiotherapy in oligometastatic prostate cancer. He also led the first clinical studies on PET imaging targeting FAP and co-developed the international Promise and Recip standards.

The author of more than 200 international publications, he is recognized by Clarivate as a Highly Cited Researcher.

He is an associate editor of *The Journal of Nuclear Medicine*, vice chair of the SWOG Theranostics Subcommittee, a member of the EANM Oncology and Theranostics Committee, the ESMO Task Force on Radioligand Therapies, and several SNMMI advisory boards, and is a co-organizer of the international PSMA&Beyond conference.

At Gustave Roussy, his research is conducted within the BioMaps multimodal biomedical imaging laboratory (Université Paris-Saclay, CEA, CNRS UMR 9011, Inserm UMR 1281) and the OncoMAPS team. His work will focus on the clinical development of radioligand therapies, including alpha emitters, personalized dosimetry, combination strategies, and new targets such as FAP, carbonic anhydrase IX, nectin-4, and ACP3. He brings a broad portfolio of academic, industrial, and international collaborations to the project, supporting individualized theranostic approaches aimed at improving the prognosis for cancer patients.
